Setting Yourself Apart

Setting Yourself Apart
Today we received a pro-Burgum poll and a pro-DeSantis mailing, and the contrast in style was very apparent.

The Burgum poll started out with the normal qualification questions about your likeliness to vote.  But then they almost immediately started down a route that was suspect.  They left DeSantis out of the first group question with some emphasis on Trump.  Then they went down the route of pushing Burgum.  They asked the same question of who you would vote for over and over again with just a few statements in between talking about various points from Burgum's resume.

The talking points for Burgum were almost all business oriented and 10th amendment focused.  But I am finding that the more he focuses on the 10th Amendment, the more it comes across as an excuse for not standing for what is right.  Instead of standing for life fully in opposition to abortion, the 10th amendment is now being used as an excuse to let states decide if life is important or not.  That is not the traditional 10th amendment argument.  I get the feeling that Burgum is trying to use a catch phrase conservatives like to hear against them.

His attempt to set himself apart from the rest by focusing on the 10th Amendment may work with some who love talking points, but not with those that like more meat on the bones of their candidates.

Meanwhile, I think I am starting to more fully appreciate the route that the DeSantis Super PAC is taking with the mailings we are receiving from them.

The DeSantis mailings are more about family, military, and leadership.  And although these may just seem like regular things each candidate should bring up, many of these actually help DeSantis stand out from the other candidates.

The Military one is the most obvious.  He is the only candidate to have a military background.

The Family is much more subtle if one doesn't have a lot of knowledge about the other candidates. For instance, there are a surprising number of candidates that have not had the greatest history of marriage.  No one's perfect, and we must be willing to accept that some may not always have had the same views they have now.  Forgiveness is key, but looking at their current family life and history of their own personal family is important.  I think this is actually one of the most important aspects that can set a candidate apart from others.  How one will lead a country is easily reflected in their family life. How is their marriage and how are their kids?

Leadership experience is something most candidates can claim.  But the DeSantis campaign goes beyond just having experience, they highlight the types of experience.  And I think a lot of this touches upon one's family life.  If you and your wife can properly rear children, then you have a big step up on other candidates in leading the executive branch of any level of government.  Leftists are like children.  They complain when they don't get their way and try to get all the other bully's in the playground to help beat you up.  They need dealt with harshly.  And DeSantis has experience doing that.

So who else has set their self apart from the other candidates this week?  Francis Suarez.  He has set himself apart by being the first candidate to exit the race.  Not necessarily the best way to get known during the campaign season, but perhaps better than being known for staying in with no chance to win.  Several other candidates also need to think long and hard if it wouldn't be better for all involved to cut their losses and support someone else.
