The List Grows Smaller
Perry Johnson suspended his campaign Friday, October 20, 2023. We had not received any mail from his campaign for over two months and he had not really gotten any traction in the polls. He had been left out of the debates because of his low poll numbers and he never really traveled much outside the larger towns in Iowa. When you don't spend time outside the larger cities, it's usually a sign your campaign is not all that serious. That doesn't mean he wasn't serious about running for President, it just means his campaign was not being run in a way that had a serious chance.
That is three down and more than 10 more to go (depending on who you consider a serious candidate). One of those that sits way outside the main list of contenders is Ryan Binkley. Unlike Johnson, Binkley is actually spending time outside the larger cities. I am not sure that will help his campaign a lot, but it is at least an honest attempt. Speaking of which, Ryan Binkley may be visiting my area soon and we shall see if we get a chance to meet him.
The campaign mailings really started to slow down this week. Most likely because their are a lot of other things going on in the world right now.
We started the week with another anti-DeSantis mailing from the Make America Great Again, Inc. Super PAC. Someone is really worried about DeSantis doing well in Iowa. They give a lot of fine print on this mailing. Fine print usually means they are trying to mislead you but don't want to get in trouble for lying.
Then later in the week we received an anti-Trump mailing from the AFP Action Super PAC. This postcard takes the same approach as the previous AFP mailings in that it says Trump is not able to beat Joe Biden so you should choose a different candidate.
We also received our first Burgum mailing in two weeks. This mailing is just like all his previous ones. A larger postcard in Red, White, and Blue talking about being a business leader.
