Tim Scott is the latest candidate to join our growing list. The Super PAC sending today's mailing on his behalf is
Opportunity Matters Fund, Inc.
This mailing is all about Faith. Faith in God, Faith in Family, Faith in Free Enterprise, Faith in Freedom, Faith in America, and Faith in each other all make their appearance in this two sided poster.
From my point of view, this is a good approach, especially for one's first introduction via mail.
With that said, my pro-marketing, anti-sales mind has little antenna's picking up a trend perhaps. When you are in marketing for so long, you are perhaps extra critical or more cognizant than one needs to be when it comes to these types of things. But let me lay this out anyway.
After hearing Mike Pence, getting this mailer from Tim Scott, and reading several campaigns websites, I get the impression that various campaigns and super PACs are looking into their research to find that they need to approach things with more emphasis on not just faith in general but Christianity more specifically.
This emphasis is certainly not wrong. But this is where my anti-sales pitch mindset comes into play. Is all this sincere or are we just hearing this because their research shows that this will help them stand out from others in the crowd and reach people in Northwest Iowa more appropriately?
Reading a mailer won't give me the answer to that. I can just take it at face value and understand that this is not a bad emphasis for candidates to take. But this is why meeting the candidates in person is very helpful. You can more easily judge the sincerity of a candidate in person. Well, most people can. My experience is that sales people are easily sold. So if you are a sales person, beware! And don't be too saddened when I don't put a lot of trust in what you have to say.
