Senator Tim Scott first elected to the Senate by the people of South Carolina in 2013. Tim Scott was raised in North Charleston, South Carolina, by his mom, Frances Scott. Senator Scott attended Presbyterian College from 1983 to 1984 on a partial football scholarship. There he was introduced to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an encounter that led him to his Christian faith. Tim Scott later transferred to Charleston Southern University, where he graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. Tim Scott served on the Charleston County Council from 1995 to 2009 before serving in the State Legislature from 2009 to 2011. He then served in the United States House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013 until he was appointed to the United States Senate by Governor Nikki Haley. Tim Scott was not married at the time he ran for the Republican Presidential nomination. He suspended his campaign on November 12, 2023.
