Denied by the Pollsters

Denied by the Pollsters
I've been denied by the pollsters. While I was scanning the latest mailing from the SFA Fund, Inc. mailing in support of the Nikki Haley campaign, I got a call from a pollster.

Like most, the phone seems dead for several seconds until the computer transfers you to a live person after it detects you picked it up.  Then they go through a few verification questions and then start the preliminary questions.

I didn't get very far today.  Usually I love answering these.  I always find it interesting how the questions are worded.  You can tell when they are from someone trying to push you in a certain direction or if they are truly trying to get a good polling result.

But today, I was denied.  The question that ended my call unceremoniously early was one in which they asked me if I was a blogger or someone who comments on political topics a lot.  I had to say yes since I have started this blog of course, and the call was ended.  I didn't get to answer all the good juicy questions I assume were coming up next about what topics I think are important or what candidates I would support right now.

Why does writing a blog or commenting on political posts make me less important to getting a true sense of the political race? It shouldn't if the numbers they call are mostly random.

Interestingly, they also said they were looking for mostly female respondents at the moment.  They said that if my wife was home they would prefer to talk to her.  She wasn't so in the end, they got zero results simply because I am writing this blog to you right now.

Anyway, on to the latest mailing.  This is our first mailing supporting Nikki Haley.  It's content is mostly themed around Chinese influence which is somewhat timely with all the news stories about China buying up farmland near military bases here in the Midwest.

But it could use some better design work.  So much text is packed into this one small two sided mailing that the piece really isn't that enticing to read.  But that is not unique to this mailing.  Looking back over the last several elections cycles, this is more the norm than not.  Between trying to save money and pushing these mailings out as fast as they can, there probably isn't any time for a designer to do much more than what you see.

I've added this mailing to our running totals....
