Today I received a telephone poll that asked a lot of questions about my awareness of recent campaign ads. The poor guy (it was a real human this time) asking the questions probably didn't expect to spend as much time on the phone with me as he did. And I doubt he will ever spend that much time in the future either.
The poll started off normally and was, as far as I could tell, an unbiased poll. A couple things about this one stood out though. The first was a couple mentions of
Bob Vander Plaats. In Iowa, he has a reputation of endorsing the eventual winner of the Iowa Caucuses (Huckabee, Santorum, and Cruz). His ultimate influence on swaying people to vote a certain way is debatable, but he does have influence.
Beyond the mention of Vander Plaats, the other interesting thing that stood out in this poll, was a set of questions about what types of media (radio, tv, social, print, etc) I have come in contact with recently. It was a question that was asked for four of the candidates (Trump, Scott, Haley, and DeSantis). And they didn't just want to know what type of ad we remembered, but what the content of the ads were. The poor guy got my number in the random number lottery because I have all my past mailings sitting right on my desk where I answered the phone.
Needless to say, he was sort of surprised when I gave him an affirmative answer to all four candidates and details on each and every ad. He was recording all the details, and I could tell he was a little tired of typing or writing in the background by about the second or third candidate. But he stayed with it and did his job.
With all that said, I am sure this was not a national well-known polling company as those usually make their presence well known. But this was probably some other group trying to get a lay of the land for some reason. It was just nice that it wasn't outright pushing any one candidate. If I were to guess they might be related to Bob Vander Plaats or related to Ron DeSantis or a Super PAC related to DeSantis. But that is just a guess.
Meanwhile, we received another Mailing from the Nikki Haley Super PAC with the same China theme. And, yes, that was detailed in my poll answers to the poor guy who got stuck with me.
