A lot has happened in the world since last week and the campaigns have lost the focus in the main news media. But we still received several mailings from four different sources.
Our first mailing of the week came on Wednesday from Ramaswamy's PAC called the "American Exceptionalism PAC. It highlights Ramaswamy as being an outsider and having guts to tell the truth. I would agree that he is somewhat of an outsider in the traditional sense, but I think there are other candidates willing to tell the truth besides just him.
On Friday we received three mailings.
One was from the Haley Super PAC, Stand for America who has sent all of her mailings this year. This Super PAC has focused a lot on postcard mailings. This would be their 15th one we have received. And, yes, we are still waiting for just ONE of them to not include the word "China". In my mind, Haley has been getting some additional push from
Foxnews.com, including some very misleading headlines.
Polls do show Haley overtaking Ramaswamy for third place. But contrary to a recent
Foxnews.com headline which stated she was now competing with DeSantis for second place, her standings are actually not as high as Ramaswamy's were when he was in third place, while DeSantis hasn't lost any ground.
I am a firm believer that Fox News, as a whole, has always promoted the candidates that will most easily defeat the more conservative candidate. I first noticed this in the McCain campaign versus Mike Huckabee in 2008. They again seemed to do this with the Romney campaign against Rick Santorum in 2012. And I could argue that they did the same thing in 2016 in supporting Trump over Cruz. I definitely feel they are again doing it this year. When that less conservative candidate is truly not conservative at all, Republicans lose the main election.
Moving on, we received our third Finish the Fight, Inc. postcard attacking Trump. This one is focused on criminals being released from prison and the "First Step Act". I am not so sure this one will be affective, but perhaps it will touch some people.
A topic that would be more affective would be abortion. The Trump campaign knows this is a topic they are vulnerable on, and that is why we got our first mailing directly from the Trump campaign yesterday and it was on the topic of abortion.
This may be a truly affective postcard mailing if one is not aware of Trumps more recent comments on abortion laws passed by states such as Florida. The large postcard touts his Supreme Court Justices and the fall of Roe v. Wade. But when I look at all the rulings his nominees have made, I see a lot of problems. We have had a lot of rulings that are not constitutional by any stretch of the imagination. When Thomas and Alito are the only two on one side of an issue, something is wrong.
